Since 1867, Westbourne Grammar School has empowered students to think deeply, grow with confidence and make a meaningful difference in the world. Today, across its Truganina and Williamstown campuses, more than 2,000 students from 70 nationalities and 35 faith backgrounds learn in a community where diversity, ambition and belonging matter.
At the heart of Westbourne’s approach is Inspire, a whole-school learning philosophy that ensures education is active, hands-on and immersive. Students don’t just learn mathematics – they become mathematicians. They don’t just explore art – they see the world as artists. And when they play and make music, they develop into musicians. Education isn’t preparation for life – it is life, unfolding through an identity of being and becoming.
Great teachers drive this culture of excellence. Westbourne invests in its staff through sector-leading professional conditions – from fully funded overseas fellowships and postgraduate study support to leadership pathways and flexible work policies. This commitment attracts passionate, high-performing educators who inspire every learner.
GearED: Innovation in Curriculum Design
Westbourne’s commitment to innovation was recently recognised with the Innovation in Curriculum Design award at the Australian Education Awards for its pioneering GearED program. Grounded in Seymour Papert’s constructionist philosophy, GearED reimagines middle years learning by integrating “hands, hearts, bits and atoms”. Students explore fabrication, digital media, coding, hardware architecture and physical computing, combining these skills in interdisciplinary projects that mirror real-world complexity.
Rather than treating knowledge as separate silos, GearED encourages students to design solutions that address technical challenges while considering human needs and ethical implications. From interactive installations powered by microcontrollers to assistive devices and AI-enabled environmental projects, students become versatile creators prepared for a future in which digital and physical worlds converge.
Leadership that inspires
This culture of ambition and innovation is guided by Principal and Managing Director Adrian Camm, the 2025 Australian School Principal of the Year. Under his leadership, Westbourne has revolutionised strategy, business operations, community engagement and staff development, positioning the school as both an employer of choice and a national leader in educational innovation. His vision continues to drive Westbourne’s growth, from pioneering curriculum initiatives like GearED to transformative masterplan projects shaping the school’s future.
Shaping learners who inspire the world
With a history spanning more than 158 years, Westbourne Grammar continues to balance tradition with innovation. Its graduates leave not only with strong academic results but with the confidence, creativity and leadership to shape the future. Programs like GearED exemplify Westbourne’s vision: preparing young people to be thoughtful, capable and ethical contributors in an increasingly complex, interconnected world.
As an independent, forward-thinking girls’ school we are committed to preparing girls for a lifetime of learning, leadership and engagement in our global community. We believe in girls.
At Ruyton Girls’ School we foster the individuality of each girl in a caring and safe environment, nurturing her intellectual, physical, social and emotional qualities that are essential to flourish.
Powerful learning is central to the Ruyton culture, building on our strong academic reputation. We focus on advancing the learning of every girl through the engagement of intellectual curiosity, building their knowledge and skills about how to learn, and supporting them to achieve their personal best and be exemplary citizens. We believe in real-world learning beyond the classroom, collaborating with the wider community to promote growth, discovery and sustainability.
We empower our girls to lead lives of purpose with courage, character and compassion. Through the development of values and action-focused learning they are inspired to pursue equity and justice for self and others. By embracing diversity and raising their voices, our girls effect positive change and make a difference.
