As Principal, it is a great privilege to lead such a vibrant community, built on the relationships and principles of a loving Christian family. We proudly embrace the 42-year Marist history at the college, integrating their values into daily life, especially through our pastoral care and wellbeing programs. These uphold the ideals of Saint Marcellin Champagnat, reminding us that “To raise children properly, we should love them and love them equally”. My goal is to be personally invested in every student’s success and to foster a support network between students, families and dedicated staff in a spirit of partnership and mutual support.

In a rapidly evolving educational landscape, Westbourne Grammar School stands as both a place of tradition and a leader in innovation. Since 1867, the school has shaped generations of learners who think deeply, grow with confidence and make a meaningful difference in the world. Today, across its two campuses in Truganina and Williamstown, more than 2,000 students representing 70 nationalities and 35 faiths learn in a community where diversity, ambition and belonging matter.
Westbourne’s ‘Inspire’ learning philosophy ensures students don’t just absorb knowledge – they build the critical thinking, emotional intelligence and ethical awareness to navigate a complex world. Learning here is active, hands-on and immersive. Students don’t just study mathematics; they become mathematicians by solving real problems. They don’t just explore the arts; they become artists through experimentation and expression. And when they play music, they are musicians – performing, creating and refining their craft with passion and purpose.
Great teachers are at the heart of this transformation. Westbourne invests deeply in its staff with sector-leading conditions, from fully funded overseas fellowships and postgraduate study support to leadership development programs and flexible work policies. This commitment attracts passionate educators who inspire every learner and strengthens Westbourne’s reputation as an employer of choice.
Leadership that inspires
This culture of ambition and innovation is guided by Principal and Managing Director Adrian Camm, the 2025 Australian School Principal of the Year. Under his leadership, Westbourne has revolutionised strategy, operations, community engagement and staff development – positioning the school as a national leader in educational innovation. His vision drives initiatives, from pioneering pedagogy, such as the GearED curriculum, to transformative masterplan projects reshaping the Truganina campus.
Technology that transforms
It is this spirit of innovation that saw Westbourne named a finalist in the Australian Education Awards category for Best Use of Technology. Central to this recognition is the school’s groundbreaking use of AI avatars, which act as digital ‘knowledge concierges’. These interactive avatars – representing Principal Adrian Camm; Director of Teaching and Learning Christine Lambrianidis; and Director of Digital Learning Liam Bassett – provide personalised, accessible support to students, staff and the wider community.
The avatars respond in over 50 languages, deliver professional development, assist with enrolment and event queries and provide academic guidance 24/7. Since their introduction, student engagement with resources has risen by 40%, with more than 2,500 queries answered each month. Leadership visibility has also grown, with interactive messaging driving a 30% increase in community engagement. For students, the technology encourages self-regulation, independent inquiry and deeper questioning – embedding metacognitive strategies into daily learning.
By combining a proud history with a bold vision for the future, Westbourne Grammar School continues to shape learners who inspire the world.
The Lakes College Culinary Club (TLCCC) started with a team of 12 students and has now expanded to over 30 members, showcasing its continued success through participation in college events and even catering for local community organisations. This program not only imparts valuable culinary skills but also teaches the significance of community service, fosters practical abilities and cultivates a professional work ethic.
Spanning ages 11 to 18, the Culinary Club challenges students to create elaborate six-course degustation dinners and manage large-scale catering for college gatherings. Chloe, a Year 7 student, praises the program for imparting essential life skills in an enjoyable way among friends. Likewise, Emily values the connections she forms despite the program’s demanding pace.
Under the guidance of Chef Joel, TLCCC contributes to the college’s ethos and the students’ personal growth. The program’s commitment to local ingredients and culinary adventures is evident as it expands to include barista training and Responsible Service of Alcohol certification. The program seamlessly merges science, art and food technology, promoting discipline and shared responsibility. TLCCC embodies a commitment to service, community engagement and student leadership, cementing its unique character and contribution to The Lakes College.
