Since joining St Michael’s Grammar School in 2020, Nicole Armatas has transformed the Junior School through her visionary leadership, passion for learning and deep commitment to community. Now serving as Deputy Head of the School and Head of Junior School, Nicole has focused on enhancing teaching expertise, strengthening student outcomes and developing innovative learning environments that ignite curiosity and creativity.

She has played a pivotal role in the design and delivery of Signature Programs across Prep to Year 6. These connect students with real-world experiences through partnerships with organisations such as Collingwood Children’s Farm, Earthcare, Parks Victoria and the Port Phillip EcoCentre. The programs foster agency, critical thinking and a sense of community responsibility. In 2024, Nicole also championed major initiatives, including the Inquiry-based Learning Research Project, the development of the Year 6 Learner Credential through the University of Melbourne’s New Metrics research partnership, and the refurbishment of the Allan Pizzey Building. Under her leadership, NAPLAN results have improved, enrolments have grown, and staff have been empowered through bold professional learning. Nicole’s work is underpinned by a personal pledge she made 30 years ago: that every child she teaches feels valued, seen and inspired to flourish academically and personally.
