Building Educator Expertise & Understanding Impact, the Genazzano Institute is proud to support a productive and progressive staff professional development program at Genazzano FCJ College. As a priority, the Genazzano Institute foregrounds the latest educational research to inform learning and teaching. It is a first mover and leader in learning innovation through its industry, academic and community partnerships, translating theory into practice and empowering teachers to collaborate as action researchers to improve their practice and calculate their impact.
Working alongside college staff, the Genazzano Institute helps inform, evaluate and improve college programs and introduce cutting-edge ones. Undertaking collaborative projects with significant university and industry partners helps inform our enacted curriculum at the college and promote educational advancement. The college continues its partnership with the University of Melbourne’s New Metrics for Success Schools Partnership. We have contributed to this groundbreaking work through data collection and engagement in workshops and seminars. Such work ensures that Genazzano remains at the forefront of educational thinking and practice as we collaborate and learn with renowned academics and leading schools in this research community.
2023 sees Genazzano FCJ College as an active participant in the Matching not Ranking Evaluation project in collaboration with with Melbourne Assessment at the University of Melbourne to gather data on complex competencies and VCE results to explore insights that can be gained. A formal research partnership with Monash University was established in 2022 to evaluate students’ sense of belonging and motivation in Year 10. With a focus on promoting student voice, an appreciative enquiry survey was completed, and students worked with data to discuss and develop action plans which they implemented during Term Four. The collective sense of community has evolved into a flagship Microcredential Fidelis Project.
The Genazzano Institute is a Research Invested Schools network (RISn) member led by Scots College, NSW. This research-invested school group embraces research and innovation as a fundamental aspect of its identity. Research leads in schools around Australia work together to explore research, share practice and develop expertise. The Genazzano Institute presented its work on innovation in learning by establishing a microcredentials program and sharing its template and procedures to ensure each course is warranted and rigorous. Establishing an Innovation team in 2022 enabled a collaborative approach to develop strategic areas of innovation. Strategic projects delivered by this team included implementing and launching the college’s analytics dashboard and introducing the renewed Ignatian Pedagogical Framework. In addition, a student dashboard, in collaboration with Edapat, has been created to enable students to take control of their learning and measure their growth and achievement of set goals.
Innovation, future skills and research methods have been established as significant components of learning and teaching at Genazzano. The work of the Genazzano Institute and the Innovation team has seen considerable shifts in student offerings through the capacity building of staff and the promotion of student agency. This exciting work will see Genazzano’s reputation grow as a progressive learning institution for all.
